Places to stay: Copenhagen’s newest grande dame

Places to stay in Copenhagen. The forgotten city-centre landmark undergoes an ambitious makeover into Copenhagen’s newest grande dame.

The backstory

Villa Copenhagen is a fusion of the old post office from 1912 and new, modern architecture and design. many of its original features during the extensive renovation are preserved.

In total, the hotel will offer 390 hotel rooms and suites, a restaurant, bar, gym and relaxation area with a pool, and conference rooms.

Sustainable luxury

At Villa Copenhagen, luxury is dependent on conscious and sensible choices that take the environment into account. The experiences at the hotel ought be meaningful, warm and gives you an awareness that you must give as much as you get.

Sustainability is not a duty but rather a conscious choice at this hotel. The hotel is investing in innovative services through informal relationships tailored to each individual guest.

Set the scene

The vast, light-filled atrium meets lobby bar is already a popular meeting spot for locals, with regular DJs, live music and pop-up events.

The rooms

Away from the sparkling bars and lobby, rooms here are modest and calm with herringbone floors and nicely designed high ceilings.

Inner rooms overlook the courtyard atrium, others look out across the train tracks (don’t worry, rooms are well soundproofed) and, from some rooms, you can glimpse Tivoli’s Wednesday- and Saturday-night firework shows.

Food and drink

The sustainable ethos runs right through the menus, with zero food waste and carbon-free dining at all-day brasserie Kontrast.

At in-house Rug Bakery bakes burnished pastries that elevate breakfast, and local craft brewery Mikkeller takes care of the beer for later in the day.
